The truth is, when it comes to making money on the internet, it’s all in your hands and it’s never really a sure thing. See, there aren’t many jobs on the web that are as secure and as safe as, say, flipping burgers at a fast food joint. On the web, nobody’s going to pay you by the hour just for showing up. Rather, you have to put yourself out there and figure out how to get paid for what you’re good at or what you can enjoy doing. It’s got nothing to do with just putting in your hours and everything to do with what you’re good at.

And you’re competing against the entire world. Looking for a job as a fry cook or a cashier, you have maybe a dozen other candidates to worry about. On the web, if you want to design websites, there are thousands of other designers out there. If you’re trying to sell things on an auction site, there are millions of other users on the same site.

This doesn’t mean that success is unattainable or impossible, it doesn’t mean you need to give up on your dreams of making a ton of money online working from home. What it means is that you have to spread your bets. The idea is to get into as many different opportunities as possible. Luckily, most online money making opportunities are free to get into, but they do cost your time.

So what you want to do is start no less than five businesses. Yep, five businesses. Don’t worry about making them official or getting corporate accounts, just get your paypal ready and start a few blogs and do all of the following (or switch one out with something else you might want to try)…

Freelancing

Video Producing

Online Retail

Blogging

Survey Taking

Start a freelancing company by setting up a blog with some samples of whatever you like doing. It could be cartooning or graphic design or writing or music, that’s up to you. Now look for some freelancer websites and place bids on the work that’s up for grabs. For video producing, find video sharing site that shares ad revenue with content providers. Make a video of whatever you want, and if you can’t come up with anything, do a how-to video of something you can do that not everyone else can, like “Stupid Human Tricks” online. Done, next. For your online retail business, find a few things you don’t need anymore and put them up for grabs on an auction site. Next. Blogging? Write something funny or interesting in a blog and network, network, network to get more readers. Be funny, entertaining and informative, and then look into getting some ads on there to collect some revenue. Finally, survey taking. There’s a lot of money in taking shopper’s surveys, so do a quick search and find a site that hooks you up with these surveys.

There! Now, none of these are guaranteed money, but, you set yourself up to have five potential sources of income, and each one only takes a few minutes a day to maintain. Hold onto your day job for now, and keep it until one of these takes off. If a month goes by and still no money in your paypal account, then retire the initial five businesses and start five new ones. It’s all about trying again and again until something sticks.
