Creating a Home Based Internet Business

Sep 18th, 2009 by Stephen

Many people dream of creating a small business that you can work from the comfort and convenience of your own home. Maybe it is getting to be too much having to deal with small kids and still make it to work on time. Whatever the reason many people are seeking their answer in the internet.  Finding a new job can sometimes be more difficult than creating a business. With a little creativity starting your own business or working from home, can be the most rewarding choice when it comes to earning a living.

Possibly you’re tired of the daily commute to the office, possibly you’ve been downsized out of the job you’ve held for a number of years and you’re too young to think of retirement.  First, take stock of yourself-identify your skills, and your talents. Talents are the abilities with which you were born. Skills are those things acquired through school, training and on the job. Take into account those things you learned in jobs you did prior to becoming entrenched in your chosen career. Be brutally honest with yourself, because these are the skills that you will take into your own business venture.

Figure out just what kind of worker you are.  Are you very organized, focused and or, a self starter. Are you able to work well with people, are the you problem solver on the team or the problem causer? Are you considered honest and trustworthy by your compatriots for getting the job done? Do you have marketable skills? If the answer is “yes” to most or all of these questions, then you have what it takes to earn a living from your own business, home-based or otherwise.

The internet is a great resource, but it can also be scam central. This is where understanding “you” comes into play.  For instance, you want to turn your hobby into a business and you go on the internet in order to hook up with a wholesaler or supplier. What you see are websites offering product that you can sell with little or no effort, all the while sitting back in the comfort of your living room and raking in the cash. All you have to do is pay a fee and jump in. This is a major scam. Reputable wholesalers and suppliers do exist and they do not charge you  an upfront fee in order to qualify to sell their product. They also don’t offer to train you for a fee, either.  If someone is asking you to pay to work for them, chances are you’ve caught a scam.

While many companies use overseas companies in foreign countries, an even greater number of companies outsource their telecommunications jobs to people, working from their homes right here in the United States. All you need is a high speed internet connection and a good computer, to go along with those excellent office skills that you’ve developed over the years.

The best way to find these jobs is through a search on the internet. Start by researching the companies in your area. Check their websites. You can usually apply and test online. If the company sounds good, but you’re still unsure, check them out with the Better Business Bureau or the Federal Trade Commission. But before you sign on the dotted line,  ask all the questions that you can think of, like, how much you’re being paid, how you’re being paid, when you’re being paid. Or, how long you’re expected to work and whether you’ve been hired as an employee or as an independent contractor.
