I get asked this question a lot. “Why do I need to optimize my website for search engines?” My answer is simple. If you want free traffic to your website, blog, e-commerce store, etc. you have to take advantage of this opportunity. I spent in 2014 over $10,000 in marketing revenue on one of my e-commerce stores. Do you know what I got for it? Less than 10% of my total traffic came from my marketing endeavors.
Now don’t get me wrong. Buying ads and such is a great way to bring in some highly targeted traffic and increase revenue by far. There are some really great strategies to this that we will be discussing later to ensure you get some ROI for the money you spend. But today I want to talk about search engine traffic.
Now I said that 10% of my sites total traffic came from paid advertising efforts. So where did most of my traffic come from? You guessed it. A whopping 67% of my sites overall traffic came from search engines. Guess what other cool facts I learned about this traffic.
- It was highly targeted
- It was my best converting source
- It led to more social activity than any other source
- It cost me literally 0 dollars
- These visitors stayed on my site longer than any others
Now this wasn’t every little detail about the guys that came in from search, but by now your getting the picture. This traffic let me put over 100k in my pocket last year and even more this year. There is no way my site could have done as good as it did without this traffic. This small post isn’t written to tell you how to do this instantly. Trust me it took me over 5 years of studying, reverse engineering, and trial and errors to figure out the exact way to make a site flourish without getting killed by penalties. I will be going over this in my future lessons and will teach you some tricks of the trade.
